Trading Fairly over the weekend

On Saturday Love in Action was featured as part of a Fair Trade event held at St Stephen’s Church in Belrose, NSW. Many people attended and purchased goods from local artists and producers, and in the evening people came to watch Amazing Grace – the wonderful film about William Wilberforce and his lifetime effort to see slavery abolished.

During the afternoon Love in Action raised $600 that will all be donated to Bridge of Hope to help give additional micro-loans to families living in Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia. You can read about how micro-loans can transform the life of the poor in the book, but hurry copies are extremely limited and available online Compassion and in person at Humphries newsagents in Manly.

Love in Action arrives in Manado

We’re thrilled to share with you that Love in Action has arrived in Manado, courtesy of Ian Freestone and Clint Hook who are currently visiting Manado. Ian presented copies of Love in Action to staff of Compassion East Indonesia and Bridge of Hope (locally known as JHB). Stu Harris and Jim Collins received the help of staff from both organisations during their trip to Manado in early 2008 whilst writing and photographing for Love in Action. It is fantastic to know that the wonderful people who work for Compassion and JHB will get to share in the joy of Love in Action. They were integral to our success in getting the stories for the book. Thank you friends in Manado, and happy reading.

Last night over 200 people gathered at the Novotel Manly Pacific for the launch celebration of Love in Action. Guests included Acting Consul-General of The Republic of Indonesia Mr Pratito Soeharyo, Ken Duncan, Mayor Jean Hay, MP Mike Baird, the Manadonese community of Sydney KMMK and the founder of Manly-Manado Jim Goddard.

Love in Action was available for purchase together with limited edition photographic prints. Profits raised from the sale of both will be donated to Manly-Manado. The money will then be distributed to development partners, Compassion Australia and Bridge of Hope.

The Love in Action photographic exhibition can be seen in the foyer of the Novotel Manly Pacific today through to Wednesday 5 August.

Love in Action featured in the Friday edition of the Manly Daily (see page 19), and was mentioned during Adam Spencer’s breakfast show on ABC JJJ. Mayor Jean Hay has written a piece for her weekly column in today’s Manly Daily (1/08/09 page 14), and Mike Frost’s weekly column, Faith Matters (1/08/09 page 14), also features Love in Action. What wonderful news.
