Love in Action - A Photographic Documentary Book

Love in Action is a story of hope: how one ordinary neighbourhood in the corner of the world - Manly, in Sydney, Australia - formed a relationship with the people of Manado, Indonesia, to take action against poverty. From its small beginnings with only a handful of residents, this grassroots movement has captured the imagination of Manly's wider community. It now includes support of local council, local businesses, schools and churches, and over 13,000 residents.

With over 100 stunning photographs shot by photographer Stuart Harris and words by Jim Collins, Love in Action captures the inspiring story of a community taking action against poverty. Thousands of lives have now been transformed as opportunity, dignity, freedom and hope flow from the relationship between the people of Manly and Manado. Café at the Gate of Salvation – Live (updated)

Saturday afternoon in Manly. People arrived early to get a good seat. We anticipated that this would be a popular event and 280 people had pre-booked and paid. By 5 pm every seat was full and still people continued to arrive willing to stand to listen to the gospel choir, Café at the Gate of Salvation.

Café of the Gate of Salvation are an a capella choir inspired by the African-American vocal tradition: the passionate, committed and exciting music of gospel and spirituals. This is music that has been at the heart of the movement towards political and spiritual freedom.
Formed in 1986, performing continuously since and touring extensively around Australia and New Zealand as well as overseas, the Choir will be in Manly for one night. Love in Action was promoted at event, and many people purchased copies of the book. Some even bought extra copies for friends and Christmas presents.
